Gift of the Givers and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) have signed a two year memorandum of understanding to provide menstrual hygiene products to women football players.

The initiative aims at supporting 2 000 women footballers associated with FAM ensuring they can focus on their game without distractions.

The donation includes 2 000 Mina Silicone Menstrual Cups valued at K100 million. These reusable cups lasting five to ten years offer cost effective and sustainable solutions for menstruation hygiene.

Country Director of Gift of the Givers Sherifa Mia, emphasized the relevance of mental and physical wellbeing in sports.

“Football is not just a physical game, it is also a mental one,” said Mia.

FAM President Fleetwood Haiya welcomed the initiative noting its potential to improve players’ performance on the field.

“This is going to go a big mile because it is going to instil dignity, confidence in our players and they are going to focus on the pitch,” Haiya observed.

Haiya further assured Gift of the Givers that FAM will be accountable in managing the donation, expressing hope for continued collaboration.
