Wa Ganyu
Just three weeks after helping the team win the 2024 Super League of Malawi, head coach Peter Mponda has tendered his resignation as coach for Silver Strikers.
A Silver Strikers top official has confirmed the development with Wa Ganyu this morning.
In the letter, Mponda has not indicated where he will be going but thanked the Central Bankers for the trust the team gave him to lead the Area 47 giants as head coach.
“I can confirm Silver Strikers has accepted his resignation,” he said.
On Sunday, Mponda was in Lilongwe for a technical meeting where he was presenting his report for the just ended season. A day later, Mponda tendered his resignation.
Reports are that Mponda is going back to his parent club, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets where he will replace Kalisto Pasuwa.
“Seems Bullets will not renew Pasuwa’s contract hence planning his replacement and they are now talking to Mponda,” a source from Bullets told Wa Ganyu.
Mponda helped Silver to win the league after a 11 year wait. The last time the team won the league was in 2013.
At Silver, Mponda was getting a salary of about K5 million and other benefits including a house in Area 6 and a fuelled car, among others plus DStv.
He joined Silver in February this year where he signed a one year deal, moving from second division side, Black Leopards in South Africa.
At Bullets, Mponda played for the team during some its glory days before working with Pasuwa as his assistant coach for three years. He then left the club last year to become head coach for Leopards.
This is a developing story that will be getting updated.
