Malawi 2-o South Sudan
The Malawi U-20 women’s football team clicked the right button by beating hosts South Sudan 2-0 in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Juba.
South Sudan created chances in the first half, they were very fast on the counter attack but struggled to trouble Malawi’s defence. Malawi struggled in the first half of the match before getting a goal in the 33rd minute.
In the second half Malawi was on top of the match, dominating possession and created more chances and adding another goal.
Sarah Mulimbika scored the first goal in the first half before Enelesi Fabiano doubled their lead to secure victory.
Malawi U-20 head coach Maggie Chombo commended the team’s resilience saying it gave the team important away goals.
“The girls were nervous in the first half but came back stronger and followed the instructions which gave us a crucial win,” explained Chombo.
Malawi will meet South Sudan again on 26th September in Juba. The aggregate winner will advance to the third round to face Guinea Bissau.
