Malawi U-17 Women’s National Football Team head coach Chisomo Nkhoma has expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparations ahead of their semi-final fixture against Mozambique in the 2025 COSAFA Women’s Championship. The match is scheduled for today (Friday) afternoon, May 16 in Namibia.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Nkhoma said the squad is highly motivated and well-prepared following a focused and productive training phase.
“Our preparations have gone well. The players are in good spirits and understand the task ahead,” she said adding: “We have emphasized tightening our defence and ensuring strong communication across the pitch to maintain our solidity at the back.”

Nkhoma acknowledged Mozambique’s attacking strength, noting their impressive goal tally in recent matches.
“Mozambique is a strong side offensively. They have scored 11 goals in their last two matches. While we have also demonstrated our attacking capabilities with 9 goals, we must stay focused,” she added.
The coach also addressed the absence of key midfielder Talandira Kachala, who sustained an injury during Malawi’s group stage match against Comoros. She described her as a vital member of the squad, highlighting her significant role in Malawi’s 3-0 win over Namibia.
Malawi qualified for the semifinals in excellent form, having topped Group A with a perfect record—winning all matches without conceding a goal. Mozambique progressed to the semifinals as the best loser from the group stage.
