Mighty Tigers head coach Trevor Kajawa was roped in on condition that he should rescue the dying Tiger from relegation. After replacing coach Leo Mpulula today he failed to start on a positive note after failing to Creck Sporting Club.
Kajawa says a series of defeats has shaken his players’ confidence, but he remains optimistic that the team will bounce back as the season progresses.
The former Chilobwe United coach made the remarks after his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Creck Sporting Club on Wednesday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium in a TNM Super League encounter.
“Very painful defeat indeed,” he reacted. “I think we lost concentration, but these are boys that have lost back-to-back games, so maybe some of them have lost confidence. But as a new technical panel, we are trying our best to give them confidence, to give them hope. Anything can happen in football,” said Kajawa.
The coach, who recently took charge of the team, said he has seen positive signs in the squad despite the loss and believes results will improve in the upcoming matches.
Meanwhile, Creck head coach Elijah Kananji expressed delight after his side registered their first-ever TNM Super League victory in the Southern Region since joining the top flight.
Mighty Tigers are struggling in the league, sitting 15th with 17 points from 20 matches, while Creck have moved up to 9th with 25 points from the same number of games following the win.
