Mighty Mukuru Wanderers forward Christopher Jacama Kumwembe on Sunday punished his former club Civil Service United with a hat-trick as the Nomads secured a 3-0 victory in the TNM Super League.
Kumwembe began his soccer career at Civo before being sold to Wanderers last season but he showed no mercy for his former employees at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
“My job as a striker is to score goals and i just had to do it when opportunities arose,” he told Wa Ganyu after the match without showing remorse about the pain he inflicted in his former club.
On Sunday, Kumwembe drew first blood in the additional time of the first half when he headed home Isaac Kaliati’s well-bended cross for the Nomads to lead at the break.
He whipped in his second goal three minutes into the second stanza when he made the most of Civil defenders’ blushes to beat goalkeeper Rahman John at the near-post.
His final flourish came in the 71st minute as headed home a Stanely Sanudi cross to complete his hat-trick.
Civil, who had only two shots on target in the entire 90 minutes through Chikaiko Batson and Emmanuel Saviel, returned home with regrets on why they sold their former hit-man.
Wanderers could register more goals through Gaddie Chirwa and substitute Francisco Madinga had their attempts not being denied by Civil goal-minder John.
Civil coach Abbas Makawa conceded defeat: “We started well as we pressed hard for goals. However, our failure to defend well betrayed us and we were not sharp enough in front of goal. We will go back to the drawing board to work on our mistakes,” he said.
Wanderers head coach Meck Mwase, who has two wins in two matches in charge, said he was happy with the performance of his charges.
“I am happy for them that the players played according to instructions,” he said.
Wanderers have moved second on the 16-team log-table with 18 points from 10 games while Civil have dropped to eighth position with 14 points.
