Malawi National Football team, the Flames have arrived in Equatorial Guinea ahead of their 2026 World Cup Qualifiers match.
The Flames are coming from registering a second win in the campaign beating Sao Tome and Principe 3-1 at Bingu National Stadium on Thursday while their opponents lost 1-0 to Tunisia.
Flames coach Patrick Mabedi is optimistic his charges will rise above the win they had at home and try to replicate their Liberia fortunes.
Equatorial Guinea will be hoping for a better start of their campaign after being deducted all the points and goals due to using an ineligible player.
Emelio Nsue 2024 AFCON top goal scorer was found guilty by FIFA and has since been banned for 6 months while his national team has been deducted the points.
The team had previously been tied on six points with group leader Tunisia before forfeiting their victories over Liberia and Namibia.
FIFA’s sanction meant that Equatorial Guinea lost those games by 3 goals to nil.
They had an opportunity over the week when they played against Tunisia but they lost, this means that Malawi will find it difficult in Malabo.
Malawi is third in group H with 6 points from 3 games with Namibia second with 7 points.
