The Malawi Beach Soccer National Team has qualified for the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite being held to an 8-8 draw by Burundi in the return leg of their Qualifier in Salima today.

Malawi has secured their spot in Egypt this September thanks to their 7-6 win away in Bujumbula, Burundi last Monday.

The result means they go through 15-14 on aggregate. Malawi achieved the same in the 2022 edition of the competition.

Malawi captain Sandram Ussi who scored a beauty today was happy to have progressed and called on authorities to help them as they prepare for the final games in September this year.

“I am happy for the achievement, we need to prepare well as we plan for the final in Egypt. For us to do well, we need proper planning by having friendly games,” he said.

FAM president Fleetwood Haiya says he is happy with the qualification and they will try all means to motivate players for the qualification.

“As FAM, we are happy and we will motivate them but we need to ask the government to come in and help the team. If we motivate these players, I believe they will give us results as they prepare for Egypt,” he said.
