The 2024 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Championship is set to be the most exciting, with 14 teams competing from October 22 to November 2 in Gqebera, South Africa.
According to the draw held at COSAFA House in Johannesburg on Tuesday, the defending champions Malawi will face Botswana, Madagascar and Mauritius in Group B.
Malawi, who won their first ever COSAFA title last year, will be looking to defend their trophy but Botswana could pose the biggest challenge in their group, as they reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Madagascar and Mauritius will also aim at making history.
Host nation South Africa, a record seven time COSAFA champions, is drawn in Group A alongside Namibia, Eswatini and debutants Seychelles.
Zambia, the 2022 winners headline Group C, where they will battle Angola and Comoros. Group D contains Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Lesotho, with Zimbabwe aiming to make a comeback after recent struggles.
Reacting to the draw, Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili expressed satisfaction, stating they have no problems with their group assignment.
He further emphasized the need for hard work, saying they have to defend the cup.
“It’s not very easy, we have to work hard and we have to be very watchful and ready for the games to come in our group,” Fazili stated.
“Our target is to defend the cup, we don’t have any excuses but we have to defend,” added Fazili.
The top teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, adding more electrifying competition.
