The Malawi Under-21 national netball team secured their 2025 Netball World Youth Cup qualification after beating Zimbabwe 42-41 in a tightly fought match at the African qualifiers in Durban, South Africa.
In a tough encounter that was characterized by determination and focus, the Junior Queens sealed the victory in the last quarter of the match.
The junior queens only enjoyed a huge margin in the first quarter of the game when they lead 12-8.
In the second quarter the Zimbabweans rose from their slumber and gave Malawi a good run for their money and by half time Malawi led 23-20.
The three-goal difference ignited fire in the Zimbabweans who came full throttle in the third quarter as they snatched the led but the Junior Queens held on to their nerve to lead 33-32.
Malawi who won five of their six games finish second with 10 points.
Christina Mkwanda head coach of the Junior Flames praised her charges for a job well done
“it was a difficult match but the girls their all in this game because they wanted to win” said Mkwanda.
Malawi face off with South Africa in a placement match later on Saturday.
