In a true definition of rising above the challenges, the Malawi lads shed off their fatigue to put up the grand fight at the regional showpiece.

Despite the team arriving in Namibia just hours before their double assignment on the 11th October, the Boys team won against Namibia and Lesotho by scoring 10 goals without conceding and top group A.

On the other end, the girl’s team played to a 2 all draw against Namibia before thumping Lesotho 5-0.

The girls cruised into the semi-final after collecting 3 points and came top of their group following the absence of Zambia while the boys still progressed to the semis despite suffering a 3-0 loss against Zambia.

In the semis, the girls came from behind to boot out Zimbabwe and book a final date with South Africa.

While the boys’ run came to an end following a 2-1 loss to South Africa in the semifinals.

Despite not clinching gold in the final round as they went down 3-1 to South Africa they have still booked a slot in the continental showpiece since South Africa already qualified as the defending Champions.

Girls’ team coach Bridget Chirwa conceded defeat and congratulated the girls for a job well done regardless of officiation being biased.

The girls team won the fair play award and  Okester Kanyenda scooped the golden boot in the boy’s category with 4 goals.
