Masters FC head coach Peter Mponda has criticised his team’s display despite walking away with a 2-1 victory over Karonga United in the FDH Bank Premiership played at Karonga Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Although Masters came from behind to win the match, Mponda said the performance was below standard and did not reflect what he expected from his side.
Karonga United opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Godfrey Sibale, putting the hosts in control early on. The visitors responded in the 33rd minute when Stain Dave equalised before Philimon Ndhlove scored the winning goal in the 54th minute.
Speaking after the match, Mponda said the team struggled in almost all departments despite collecting maximum points.
“It was a scrappy performance. What matters today is the three points, but in terms of play there was nothing. We failed to build, we are failing to dominate the midfield, even when the ball goes upfront we really struggled. Yes, we struggled but luckily enough we got maximum points. Today’s performance was worse than Chitipa’s performance,” he said.
Masters FC have now collected six points from two matches and sit second on the table, level with Silver Strikers on points, who also have six points from two games.
In other games in the league, defending champions Mighty Wanderers began their season with a 2-1 win over Creck Sporting Club at Aubrey Dimba Stadium. Lameck Mithi and Promise Kamwendo scored for Wanderers, while Laurent Banda pulled one back for Creck.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets beat Mafco 1-0 at Joyce Chitsulo Stadium thanks to an own goal by defender Vitumbiko Phiri. Bullets now have four points from two matches. Civil Service United also picked up a narrow 1-0 win over Dedza Dynamos in Dedza, with Madalitso Maso scoring the decisive goal.
A total of 17 goals were scored across all fixtures in the second week of the FDH Bank Premiership as the competition continues to take shape.
