Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has banned Chitipa United head coach Kondwa Ikwanga and also fined the club money amounting to K6 million, Wa Ganyu can confirm.

Coach Ikwanga is not allowed to be on the touchline for three matches following fracas that happened during a league match when the team lost 2-0 to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Chitipa Ground on 23rd August 2025.

Soon after the match, Ikwanga rushed to the referee to mishandle him due to frustrations claiming that the officiation in many cases favoured their opponents, and the referee had to be protected by the security and team officials.

Ikwanga’s reactions triggered emotions to his team’s supporters who invaded the pitch and also blocked Bullets’ bus from leaving the stadium and it took intervention of police to help them leave the stadium.

In its verdict statement released, Sulom advised Chitipa United that the fine should be paid before their next match against Moyale Barracks this coming Sunday.

Sulom has also advised all the teams to educate their stakeholders on the need to maintain order and adhering to the rules of the game.

“SULOM remains committed to upholding discipline and integrity in the league. Clubs are therefore urged to educate their players, staff, and fans on the importance of maintaining order and adhering to the rules of the game. Any future incidents of violence or disorder will be met with appropriate and firm action. Let us all work together to preserve the spirit of football and create a safe environment for everyone,” reads part of the statement.
