Mwase joins Pirates after dumping Mbabane

Former Flames head coach Meck Mwase has joined the Buccaneers of Eswatini, Moneni Pirates, after dumping Mbabane Highlanders.

A statement which Wa Ganyu has seen which Pirates has released said Mwase’s appointed follows the resignation of coach Caleb Ngwenya on June 26, 2025.

The statement further said the club’s board of directors selected Mwase based on his extensive experience and strategic expertise.

Mwase’s recent performance with Mbabane Highlanders demonstrated his ability to deliver results, aligning seamlessly with the club’s ambitions for growth and achievement.

“Additionally, the appointment marks a significant milestone for Moneni Pirates as they look to strengthen their competitive standing.”

“His recent performance with Mbabane Highlanders in the second half of the 2024/25 season further demonstrated his ability to deliver results, aligning seamlessly with the club’s ambitions for growth and achievement,” reads part of the statement.

The former Mighty Wanderers coach joined Mbabane in February 2025 and helped Mbabane to finish eighth on the league standings after amassing 36 points from 26 games.

Over the course of 26 matches, Mbabane faced 9 losses, with 6 occurring in the first half of the season. During that initial 13-match segment, the team managed to earn only 13 points, averaging just 1 point per match.

The latter half of the season saw the team slightly elevate their game, accumulating 20 points in the final 13 matches, with 5 wins, 5 draws, and only 3 losses, resulting in an impressive average of 1.5 points per match.

His new club, Pirates finished the league on position five with 41 points from 26 games. The Eswatini league ended on May 25.

Mwase previously coached Nsingizini Hotspurs in 2015 and 2017.
