Nguwo yobwereka silimba mthupi, so they say. Silver Strikers tried to extend his stay at Bwandiro with a two-year-deal but it was impossible to stop Peter Mponda, remain with the Central Bankers. He resigned and returned to a club he played, captained, and coached as an assistant.
Finally, the three year performance based contract has been agreed with Bullets, replacing Zimbabwe tactician Kalisto Pasuwa who helped Bullets to win 16 trophies in six years.
“The time I was leaving Bullets, I made a statement that Bullets is a team that made me and I would like to come back and be one of the members and yah, I am back,” he said.
Mponda considers it an honour and a privilege to be part of such a big club saying coaching a team he played and later coached as assistant is a great achievement.
The former Bullets captain told journalists that he will bring new players to the club while releasing others. He indicated that he has already submitted a list of players he will need at the club.
Coach Mponda is confident and convinced that Bullets has what it takes to win trophies following the experience he gained in South Africa and at Silver.
“I am a man to match that pressure,” he started.
“I took Black Leopards from bottom to 4th position and left for Silver where people said a lot but in the end by God’s grace we won the league, we nearly finished the league unbeaten but we lost to Fomo which is a big statement,” he said adding that every coach wants to coach Bullets.
When asked about his technical team, Mponda said he has submitted the names and they have approached all the needed people and almost everyone has agreed to join the team.
Mponda indicated that some players will leave the club but names were not released pushing the matter to Bullets’ chief executive officer Albert Chigoga.
“We have a list of those leaving the club and it will be released after approaching the players,” said Chigoga.
Mponda once coached at Surestream Academy then worked at Bullets as Pasuwa’s assistant coach. He left Bullets and joined Leopards in South Africa in 2023 and then became Silver Strikers coach in February 2024 where he helped the Central Bankers to win the league after an 11-year wait.
