It seems Malawi teams will still wait for more years to reach group stages of CAF Champions League after Silver Strikers today were knocked out in Tanzania 2-0 to Young Africans FC.
The result means the Central Bankers are out in the second preliminary round on a 2-1 aggregate. Silver won the first leg 1-0 at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday last week before todays’ defeat at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
In today’s match, Yanga scored the first at 7 minutes through Dickson Job’s tap in from a corner kick before Ivorian Pacome Zouzoua doubled their lead at 33 minutes.
How Bankers’ first 11 performed:
Goalkeeper George Chikooka 6
Kept the team in the game with two fine saves but failed to keep a clean sheet.
Defender Nickson Mwase 6
Calmly he mopped up everything that came through the defence today but it was not enough.
Defender Maxwell Paipi 5
Well organised at the back but he played a part in Yanga’s second goal as he failed to keep position.
Right back McDonald Lameck 5
Defensive side he was on point while creating two chances through long throw-ins. He struggled in delivering crosses inside the box.
Left back Daniel Sandukira 4
A good defender who managed to deliver two beautiful crosses in the box. His only weakness was to keep position as three times Silver was exposed at the left side.
Captain Chikondi Kamanga 5
Playing together with Levison Maganizo, Kamanga managed to close spaces at the midfield but it was not enough as Yanga players still managed to find their way through the mid.
Zebron Kalima 4
Was trusted to play behind strikers while winning second balls but failed to register clear scoring chances and was nowhere near in the second half.
Levison Maganizo 6
A big one for him was to register serious tackles at the mid and clear the ball on the line when Chikooka failed to deal with a dangerous shot.
Uchizi Vunga 5
He had a good game at Bingu but in Tanzania he struggled. He failed to dribble, not even to create a chance. He had an opportunity to register an assist but he delayed in releasing the ball to Andrew Joseph who had enough space to score, no wonder was replaced in the second half.
Stain Davie 3
The number 9 had a bad day as he failed to create scoring opportunity, not even a shot on or off the target. Of course he was not properly fed.
Andrew Joseph 3
From his movements, it was clear if given a chance he would cause problems but he was not given enough time as he was taken out after the first half.
