It’s a ban and a fine of K1.5 million for abandoning a match in the Airtel Top 8 at Kamuzu Stadium.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has banned Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and fined them K1.5 million for failing to avail themselves in a quarterfinal match against Silver Strikers.

However, the ban is suspended as Nomads are first offenders but they will only pay a K1.5 million fine.

This is a case which was committed in December last year when Wanderers abandoned a quarter-final 2nd leg match against Silver Strikers in the Airtel Top8 Cup.

According to their legal team, Wanderers argued that it was wrong for FAM to fix the match which is in contention hence failing to show up at the match.

Silver was the only side who came and they were given two goals and progressed and booked themselves a spot in the semifinal match against Mafco FC.

On December 8th, Football Association of Malawi charged Wanderers with two counts for a no show which were:

Failure by Wanderers to show up at the venue contrary to Article 10.6 and bringing the name of the game of football into disrepute contrary to Article 13.2.

Now, our sources have confided with us that FAM has banned Mighty Mukuru Wanderers. The one year ban is in all competitions in Malawi.

However, the source said the ban has since been suspended for being the first offender but Nomads will still pay a fine imposed on them.

FAM will be releasing the verdict soon.
