Mighty Wanderers goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa has won the TNM Super League golden glove award with a game to play. He will receive K1 million from sponsors TNM.
Data released by the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) shows that Khungwa has recorded the highest number of shutouts in the league this season and he is followed by Silver Strikers keeper George Chikooka.
Khungwa has made 21 league appearances, keeping 17 clean sheets, underlining his dominance between the posts and his crucial role in Wanderers’ defensive solidity.
His performance has played a decisive role in ensuring the Nomads secured the league crown with one match still to spare—a first one after eight years of waiting.
Chikooka is second on the clean sheet chart with 14 shutouts from 28 matches. His side is remaining with two matches, meaning Chikooka has a chance to increase his numbers but cannot beat Khungwa.
Last season, Chikooka won the golden glove with 18 clean sheets and was named goalkeeper of the Season. He won the award with 6 games to play for the Central Bankers.
Elsewhere, Rahaman John of Civil Service United and Jacob Anyandwile of Chitipa United are tied on 13 clean sheets each, both achieved across 24 league matches.
In the battle for the Golden Boot, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets forwards Chikumbutso Salima and Babatunde Adepoju are leading the scoring charts with 13 goals apiece from 27 matches. They are closely followed by Zeliat Nkhoma of Kamuzu Barracks with 12 goals in 25 appearances, while Dastan Banda of Civil Service United has scored nine goals in 27 matches.
The 2024 top goal scorer, Isaac Kaliati of Mighty Wanderers, finished last season with 17 goals, a mark the current contenders will be aiming to surpass before the campaign ends.
