Nyirenda unhappy as Bullets edge Civil to open four-point oead

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Wedson Nyirenda says his team did not perform to its usual standards despite beating Civil Service United 1–0 in the FDH Bank Premiership at Mpira Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Substitute Paul Master scored the winner in the 83rd minute, securing maximum points for Bullets and opening a four-point gap at the top of the table.

Nyirenda said Bullets knew they would face a tough challenge from Civil, as teams often raise their game when playing against the People’s Team.

“It was a very difficult game at home. We knew Civil would come and throw everything at us. As I have already said, playing against Bullets is always a final. Other teams also want to prove themselves, so it won’t be easy for us. We know what to expect, but today we did not play our game,” Nyirenda said.

Despite moving to 39 points from 18 matches, the Bullets coach said his team could not afford to relax simply because they were top of the standings.

“Being at the top of the FDH Bank Premiership table doesn’t mean that we are comfortable. We have to fight and continue winning games,” he said.

Meanwhile, Civil Service United coach Abas Makawa said his players performed well despite conceding late in the game.

Makawa described Master’s goal as unfortunate and said his team needed to address its weaknesses and collect points in the coming matches.

“It’s just unfortunate that we conceded a silly goal, but my boys played well. A loss is a loss. We need to go back and identify the problems. In the next match, we need to collect points,” Makawa said.

The result leaves Civil Service United still searching for their first win of the second round, with just one point from three matches.

Bullets have now collected 39 points from 18 matches, moving four points clear of second-placed Mighty Wanderers, who face Karonga United on Sunday.

Master, who came on at half-time, was named Player of the Match after scoring the decisive goal.

The victory also means Bullets have gone three months without conceding a league goal. They last conceded on 25 July 2026, when they lost 1–0 to Goshen City Dedza Dynamos. That remains their only defeat of the season.
