Only a day is enough for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to stay top of Malawi’s Super League as Mighty Wanderers has taken charge after narrowly defeating Mafco FC in Mponela, Dowa.
Bullets had stayed on top for just hours following their 2-0 victory over Chitipa United on Saturday in Chitipa before Nomads reclaim top spot today.
At Champions Stadium, the Nomads created numerous opportunities throughout both halves, but converting them into goals proved a challenge.
The decisive moment came in the 51st minute when Blessings Mwalilino scored following a defensive error. The striker pounced on a loose ball after Mafco goalkeeper Christopher Mikuwa failed to hold onto a shot initially set up by Wisdom Mpinganjira and Blessings Singini.
Wanderers head coach Bob Mpinganjira praised his players for securing victory and making a strong start to the second round of the TNM Super League.
“We missed many chances and lacked composure in front of the goal, but I am pleased with the effort from the boys. Last week we won 3-1 [against the same opposition] in the FDH Bank Cup, and today we showed our readiness again,” said Mpinganjira.
On the other side, Mafco head coach Stereo Gondwe commended his players despite the loss, noting that a single defensive lapse cost them the game.
“The second round has just started, and we will work hard to improve our performance as we move forward,” said Gondwe.
Following this victory, Wanderers remained unbeaten in the 2025 season and sit top of the TNM Super League table with 38 points, further strengthening their title ambitions with Bullets coming second with 37 points from 16 games.
