Newly appointed Flames coach Kalisto Pasuwa has listed coaches to be part of his two-year plan. The Zimbabwean tactician has chosen FCB Nyasa Big Bullets coach Peter Mponda and Moyale Barracks coach Prichard Mwansa as his assistants.

Pasuwa has also roped three more names as understudy coaches, these are Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa, former Mighty Wanderers coach Alex Ngwira and Wanderers assistant coach MacDonald Nginde Mtetemera according to Wa Ganyu sources.

Speaking on Facebook live, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya revealed that Pasuwa has already selected his backroom staff with their names to be announced after negotiations with their clubs are concluded.

Haiya also assured fans that FAM will not interfere in the Flames player selection to give head coach Pasuwa full control over the squad.

FAM wants the Flames to qualify for the 2027 African Cup of Nations and all continental finals from then on.

To achieve this, Haiya said youth football must be strong.

“The newly launched Luwinga Inclusive Technical Centre is expected to play an important role in grooming future national team players,” he said.

Following the sacking of Patrick Mabed as Flames coach late last year, Pasuwa took temporary charge of the team with Peter Mponda as first assistant coach with Prichard Mwansa taking the second assistant coach role.

Pasuwa and his assistants led the team to a goalless draw away against Burundi and a 3-0 victory at home to Burkina Faso in the last two qualifying marches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, more foreign based players could join the Flames following Immigration’s Department announcement that it has resumed provision of dual citizenship.

Haiya said FAM is open to welcoming players with Malawian roots.

On women’s football ,Haiya said, the Scorchers will play two friendly matches in Zambia this month, featuring a full strength squad.

More than 11 players are plying their trade outside the country and nine of them will be included in the squad including the likes of the Chawinga sisters Tabitha and Temwa.

However, Haiya said the trip to Zambia will depend on government funding.
