The Malawi Women’s National Team, popularly known as the Scorchers, ended the Three Nations Women’s Tournament on a positive note with a thrilling 1–1 draw against Zambia on Tuesday.

The match, part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming WAFCON (Women’s Africa Cup of Nations) qualifiers, showcased the Scorchers’ determination and competitive spirit.

Rose Kabzere opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a superb strike, but Zambia’s Natasha Nanyangwe levelled the match nine minutes later.

Despite the draw, Scorchers head coach Lovemore Fazili said he was satisfied with the team’s overall performance. However, he stressed the need for more friendly matches to fine-tune their tactics ahead of the WAFCON qualifiers.

“We need to have more friendlies, and I’m very sure the Football Association will assist in securing more matches,” said Fazili. “This is going to help us prepare well for WAFCON.”

The Scorchers lost 2–1 to Zimbabwe on Friday in their opening match of the tournament, meaning they finished the competition with a single point.
