Lero zowalira ma Civil alola. There was drama this morning at Civo Stadium when sheriffs visited government sponsored football club, Civil Service United, over outstanding player signing on fees.

Wa Ganyu understands that Civil failed to pay image rights to attacking midfielder Arnold Masamba who is now at Kamuzu Barracks.

Masamba joined Civil from TN Stars in 2022.

During his first contract, Civil failed to pay the player his signing fees amounting to K650 000.

Despite that, Civil agreed with Masamba to extend his contract from April 3, 2024 to January 31, 2025.

An agreement was made; the club promised the player that he will get the remainder of his fees during his new contract.

In the new contract, the club agreed to pay the player K265 000 salary and K750 000 signing on fees, that’s totalling to K3 785 000 for the period of the contract including signing on fees which the club owed the player in the previous agreement, Wa Ganyu understands.

But before April 3, 2024, Civil told Msamba that his new contract had been terminated without proper conditions.

Actually, in his agreement the club indicated that his contract can be terminated based on performance. The club had no basis to terminate the player’s contract before his new contract,” said the source.

This is when the player went to court forcing the club to pay him. But the club only managed to pay the player K750 000 with K3 035 000 remaining.

A judgment was issued on September 12, 2024, that the club should pay the player, but nothing happened.

Despite reminders, Civil was unmoved.

But on Tuesday morning, sheriffs stormed the club and met the club manager who failed to convince them.

Sweet talk could not stop sheriffs, and later, they dribbled down the right into the office of the club accountant where they took laptops, printer, side table and chairs, leaving officers frustrated

Wa Ganyu has been informed that officials left the stadium to the bank where they came with a cheque amounting to K3.8 million that’s including damages and sheriff charges.

Still a proposal to pay through a cheque was not enough as the sheriffs demanded cash. Wa Ganyu will keep you posted as reports are that Civil have gone to the bank to get cash so they bring back items which sheriffs have collected.
