Silver Strikers have moved top of the TNM Super League after an ultimately comfortable win against Bangwe All Stars.
Bangwe were probably the better team at the start and end of the game – but Silver were vastly superior either side of half-time, particularly the opening 30-minute spell of the second half in which the outstanding and deserved man of the match winner, Adiel Kaduya, created one and scored one for himself before Charles Chipala wrapped up the affairs.
Despite their best efforts, Bangwe All Stars struggled to mount a comeback against Silver Strikers’ defense organised and led by their goalkeeper George Chikooka, save for a lapse in concentration that allowed Patrick Phiri to volley from just outside the box at the 92nd minute.
Bangwe deserve credit for their persistence, but from the time they conceded the first, they never really looked like getting back in the game, something Nyambose acknowledged.
“We did our best in the first half, but the boys didn’t materialize the chances we got”, he said. “And I think it’s a mentality problem which we have to continue fixing,”.
The win ties Peter Mponda’s Silver Strikers at six points with rookies Creck FC but lead the pack on goal difference.
Speaking to WaGanyu after the game, Mponda hailed his charges for a spirited performance but faulted them for conceding in the dying minutes.
“They got too comfortable towards the end of the match and we conceded. But all in all, I’m proud of their performance and we look forward to our next game against Dedza”, said Mponda.
