Malawi women’s football continues to break and create their records with Silver Strikers Ladies becoming the first Malawian club to reach the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers.

The debutants sealed their historic qualification in style after thrashing Nsingizini Hotspurs 5-1 in their final Group B match on Tuesday.

Grace Kakangula opened the scoring as early as the second minute before Carol Mathyola added three goals in the added time of the first half, 56th and 63rd minute.

Gladys Banda also got on the scoresheet later as Silver Strikers Ladies completed a dominant victory.

The result means Silver Strikers Ladies have also become the first Malawian team to win two matches at the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers.

Despite the convincing scoreline, head coach Patricio Kulemeka admitted his side did not produce their best performance, particularly in the first half.

“We went in with the mindset that we had already won. We did not play our normal game, but in the end, this is the game that we wanted most,” said Kulemeka.

Kulemeka said the historic campaign is also an opportunity to showcase the potential of women’s football in Malawi, while highlighting the importance of proper preparations for future continental competitions.

Their achievement comes as Malawi continues to celebrate the historic success of the Scorchers, who recently qualified for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
