Soldiers beat Mulanje Orphans’ friends

With no mercy, Salima based soldiers, Mafco FC, on Saturday afternoon comfortably beat Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO) 1-0 to pull them closer to the danger zone in the TNM Super League.

A solitary goal from Martial Maluwa on 71st minute confirmed that the Mulanje based side is powerless on the soldiers at their backyard, Chitowe Stadium, as they have managed to get their second victory of the season.

Both sides looked charged in the first half as each approached its opponent’s half with a statement of intent but their efforts went in vain as both seemed to have solid defences.

Mafco’s coach Jimmy Nzunga praised his boys for the performance but he was quick to say that he is not comfortable with the inconsistent performance of the team so far.

“I am not impressed with the performance in the league so far, this is not how we have been planning to be performing, anyway let me thank my boys for the victory today,” he said.

On his part, Fomo head coach Gilbert Chirwa bemoaned that their major problem so far in the league is missing to convert chances into goals by his forwards.

“The game was quite okay. But our major problem is the chances that we are missing whenever we get them. You can agree with me that in today’s match we have missed a lot of scoring opportunities,” he said.

Following the result, Mafco are on position 11 on the standings with nine points while Fomo are on fourth from the bottom with seven points, both have remained with seven matches each to wrap up the first round.
