Malawi Women’s football sensation Tabitha Chawinga has etched another chapter in history by clinching the French Division 1 Arkema Player of the Season title, owing to her remarkable debut season with Paris Saint Germain in France.

Tabitha was bestowed with this prestigious award at a ceremony held in Paris on Monday evening.

From modest beginnings to international stardom, Tabitha continues to live her dream.

This marks her second consecutive Player of the Season accolade, having previously claimed it in Italy while representing Inter Milan on loan from Chinese champions Wuhan Jiangda.

She holds the distinction of being the first Malawian female athlete to achieve such a feat.

The prolific striker secured the award by outshining teammate Grace Geyoro and Lindsey Horan from Olympic Lyonnais, having been directly involved in 28 goals throughout the French League.

Furthermore, Tabitha is poised to clinch the golden boot award, having notched up 18 goals in 19 matches, a staggering six goals ahead of Arda Hederberg from Lyon.

In addition to her scoring prowess, she also provided 10 assists for PSG in the same number of matches.

These accolades come hot on the heels of Tabitha being named Player of the Month for both February and March, and being included in the French first eleven of the season.

Overwhelmed by her achievements, Tabitha expressed her gratitude, saying, “God has made it possible. I did not expect it. I am really motivated.”

Fleetwood Haiya, President of the Football Association of Malawi (Fam), also lauded Tabitha’s accomplishments.
