An individual brilliance from goalkeeper William Thole has helped Mighty Mukuru Wanderers to book their place in the Castel Challenge Cup quarter finals after edging out Creck Sporting Club 4-1 on penalties.
The match was played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. After 90 minutes it was 1-all despite the home team dominating play towards the end of the match.
Captain Hadji Wali sent the visitors ahead at 56 minutes from a rebound before Clement Nyondo levelled scores at 66 minutes to force the game into penalties.
William Thole before taking charge in saving penalties he took the first penalty for Wanderers and managed to score.
He then saved Arnold Kayima penalty before stopping another from Daudi Chalira to give Creck no chance. Though Frank Phiri scored his spot but it was not enough.
Nomads scored all their penalties though Thole, Wallace Adam, Emmanuel Nyirenda and Wisdom Mpinganjira and 4-1 was the final score.
Creck coach Joseph Kamwendo, a former Wanderers captain, was disappointed with the outcome.
“We did almost everything, my boys played well, creating a number of scoring opportunities but it was not possible for us to progress as you know penalties are unpredictable,” he said.
Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira was happy and thanked his boys for a good fight. His team will face the winner between Bangwe All Stars and FOMO United.
