Within 555 days, which translates to 18 months, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers parted ways with three managers. They are not done yet as the team is hunting for a fourth manager.
Yes, three managers but with only one trophy to show, Airtel Top 8 Cup in 2022.
These three are Mark Harrison from England, Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan from Burundi and a local breed Meck Mwase.
Harrison was appointed head coach on November 15, 2022 replacing Alex Ngwira. He only worked for 399 days before tendering his resignation on December 19, 2023—winning the team Airtel Top 8 cup after four years of dry spell at Nomads.
He left Nomads with a word: “There are many reasons for my decision, some internal of the club itself but also external factors within Malawian football.”
Approaching a new 2024 season, Nomads started on high, roping in a Burundian tactician Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan on February 14, 2024.
Ramadhan, who promised that Wanderers will be top Kuthamangitsa Matimu, only took charge of the team for 102 days before resigning on May 26 2024.
He was given targets to win three trophies including the league. He could not achieve anything.
He left with words: “If the table doesn’t serve you anymore, what do you do?… complete the sentence…yes! I won’t comment further.”
Nomads turned to his assistant Meck Mwase. He was appointed head coach on September 22, 2024. The target was to win three trophies but he was booted out of the FDH Bank Cup and the Airtel Top 8 Cup.
He only stayed for 54 days as head coach before stepping before the termination of his contract on November 15 2024 after he went missing following the defeat to Silver Strikers in the Airtel semifinals.
He left after his team failed to close a 7-point gap between them and league leaders Silver Strikers. Bankers were top with 54 points from 24 games while Nomads were second with 47 points from the same number of games.
He never answered Wa Ganyu calls, not even issuing a memo to his bosses. Reports indicated that he left because of sabotage.
Wanderers released a statement terminating Mwase’s contract as head coach saying the decision comes due to the absence of Mwase since November 4 2024 without notifying the club.
The club said they will appoint an interim coach to ensure the club’s continuity.
