Villa and Chisomo into the Champions Cup round of 16

Chisomo Football Academy from Kasungu municipality has qualified to round 16 of the K2O Million Champions Cup which is taking place at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa District.


The match was played on Sunday, 28th July 2024 where the Academy side won 3-0 beating Tambala Sajiwa of Mponela.


The Kasungu boys broke the deadlock on 10 minutes of the first half from Patrick Chingwenya who received a beautiful ball from McDavid Chirwa before Chifundo Ngochera came with a second goal on 22 minutes.


At the end of the first half, Chisomo were leading by two goals to nil through Patrick Chingwenya and Chifundo Ngochera.
In the second half, Felix Fashion scored a third goal at 51 minutes to make it three in favour of Academy.


Speaking to a Wa Ganyu reporter after the match, Chisomo Academy head coach Laston Phiri said it was a tough game although they won.“Our opponent gave us a tough game because it was the first time facing them,” he said.


Tambala Sajiwa head coach Kachala Kalembeni accepted the defeat saying his team did not perform as expected.


“We met a good side. We are new in the game but the future looks promising, our fans should not be disappointed, there is more from this team,” he said.


In another match played at Champion Stadium on Saturday in the same cup, Villa FC from Mchinji has also progressed into the round of 16 after beating Mponela FC 2-1 through Mazuzo Banda on 20 seconds of the match and Precious Kwalira while Denis Kaonga scored a consolation goal for Mponela FC.
