Mighty Wanderers have risen to the top of the TNM Super League table after beating Dedza Dynamos 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium.
The first goal came in the first half on seventh minute through Promise Kamwendo who scored with a header from a cross by Wisdom Mpinganjira, and Isaac Kaliati sealed the win with a free-kick in the 56th minute.
The Nomads played well in both halves, although they failed to capitalize on some good chances created by Blessings Singini and Isaac Kaliati. This led to the fans starting to chant for substitutions and coach Bob Mpinganjira responded by bringing on Francisco Madinga, Nanison Mbewe, Chifuniro Chimenya, and Dan Kudonto.
Dedza Dynamos also played well but struggled to finish their chances in both halves. They brought on Blessings Phiri, Gift Kasambala, and Yasin Chida, who displayed some creativity to the team in the second half.
After the match Wanderers coach Mpinganjira said it was a tough game but his players worked hard and followed his instructions. He warned his team not to get complacent given that they are yet to lose a game in the league.
“I’m very happy with the play of my boys. I must commend my players for working very hard. It was a very difficult game, you saw how Dedza was playing – they are a good team, but I’m happy we have three points in the bag,” he said.
“We did well in the first half – we scored early, that’s what we planned, so it worked. But we could have scored more goals, we didn’t, it happens in football. I’m satisfied with the two goals we scored, it’s good for us,” he added.

Dynamos coach Alex Ngwira blamed his team’s loss to a lack of confidence in front of goal and promised to work on improving the team.
“The players did not finish our chances because of fear factor. We have time, of course, we are trying to change here and there, and I’m sure we will come up with a team that can challenge,” he said.
With this win, Mighty Wanderers have risen to the top of the table with 22 points from 8 games, while FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are second with 21 points from same number of games.
In other matches played on Sunday Ekhaya FC beat Mzuzu Hammers 3-1 and are now third with 19 points from 9 games. Ekhaya scored through Andrew Lameck, Wongani Kaponya and Clever Chikwata while Samson Olatubbosun scored for the home team.
