Mighty Wanderers Queens have bounced back from their disappointing 5-1 defeat to Civil Service United Women in the opening day to secure their first win of the National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership.

The Nomads ladies hammered FACT Ladies 4-1 at Mpira Stadium today. The victory gives Wanderers Queens first three points of the campaign.

Falunah Umali opened the scoring two minutes after half time, finishing from an assist by Estere January before Atuweni Njilima doubled the advantage in the 66th minute, with January again providing the assist.

Umali then converted from the penalty spot in the 69th minute to make it 3-0, before Tawina Kawagah added a fourth two minutes later, with January completing her three assist performance.

FACT Ladies pulled one back through Evelyn Dallas in the 84th minute, but Wanderers Queens held on to claim a 4-1 victory.

Umali was named Player of the Match after scoring a brace to help Wanderers Queens bounce back from their opening day defeat and register their first three points of the season.

Speaking after the match, Wanderers Queens coach Thom Kazembe said the team’s confidence was key to their response after the opening day defeat.

“We told the girls to have confidence because we were coming from a defeat. They needed to believe in themselves, and that is what they did today”, said Kazembe.

In a post-match interview, FACT Ladies coach Thokozile Nkhoma said the team’s lack of experience and struggles in midfield contributed to the defeat.

Elsewhere, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women registered their second win of the season after Vanessa Issa’s 74th minute strike secured a 1-0 victory over Civil Service United Women at Civo Stadium.

The result comes at the same venue where Civil Service United Women defeated Mighty Wanderers Queens 5-1 in Wanderers opening match of the season last week.
