Wanderers to appeal, demand the game to be postponed

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have hinted that they will appeal against FAM competitions committee’s decisions on the abandoned Airtel Top 8 quarter-final first leg against Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The Board of Directors of Mighty Wanderers 2021 Limited sat on 4th December, 2023 to analyze the determination of its case with FAM.

In the verdict FAM competitions committee awarded the match to Silver by a 2-0 margin after finding the Wanderers guilty of causing the abandonment of the game.

The committee slapped the club with a fine of K500 000 for being found guilty of failing to take the necessary precautions to prevent their supporters from displaying unsporting behaviors by throwing missiles into the pitch and damaging stadium seats.

Wanderers were also ordered to meet the costs associated with the repair and restoration of any damaged facilities at the stadium estimated at about K22 million.

A further K2 million fine was also imposed on Wanderers for being found guilty of bringing the game of football into disrepute.

But Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Board Secretary Chancy Gondwe confided in Wa GAnyu that the club was going to appeal.

Gondwe said the Wanderers Board observed that the determination was not made in the spirit of fair play having noted that the cause of the matter was a bad decision by the referee.

The Board has resolved to appeal and have the game against Silver Strikers postponed until the matter is held and resolved.

“We are going to digest the whole determination and make our appeal grounds “said Gondwe.
