The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Women’s Premiership title race has taken an interesting turn after Silver Strikers Ladies, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women and Mighty Wanderers Queens all suffered defeats in Week Four.
Silver Strikers Ladies were the first to fall, losing 3-2 to city rivals Civil Service United Women in a Lilongwe derby on Saturday.
Civo took advantage to claim all three points, with Vitumbiko Mercy Mkandawire scoring twice before Maneni Kapasule added a third. Silver Strikers responded through Madyina Nguluwe and Ireen Khumalo but couldn’t find an equaliser.
The pressure continued on Sunday, when Big Bullets Women lost 2-1 to Ascent Soccer Academy at Mpira Stadium, while Mighty Wanderers Queens went down 3-2 to Kukoma Ntopwa Women.
The results gave Civil Service United Women the opportunity to move to the top of the standings after their title rivals slipped up.
Meanwhile, Chitoliro Heroines remain winless after four matches. They have lost all four and are yet to collect a point. Their latest setback was a 3-1 defeat by FACT Ladies on Thursday.
