Team Malawi has bowed out of the Paris Olympics following female swimmer Tayamika Chang’anamuno’s failure to get past the qualifying round of the women’s 50m free style where she  finished 7th in heat 4 with a time of 29.32.

The 22 year old was Malawi’s last hope at the multi-sport event following failure by short distance runner Asimenye Simwaka and another swimmer, Felipe Gomes to progress past the first round respectively.

Gomes was the first Malawian to compete at the games but he was eliminated in the very qualifying round early in the week.

Simwaka managed to reach the preliminary round of the 100 metres having finished second in the qualifying phase but she bowed out in the preliminary round after finishing eighth out of nine participants in heat one of the race.

Simwaka gave Malawi hopes for a medal in the 100 meters but the dream was over when she suffered a devastating hamstring injury during the preliminary round.

Team Malawi was taking part in the Paris Games on universality following failure by the country to meet qualifying standards.
