Malawi Women’s National Football team head coach Lovemore Fazili says preparations have gone well ahead of the team’s crucial Group A encounter against Lesotho this afternoon.

Fazili side is coming from a disappointing 2-0 defeat in their opening match against South Africa in the 2026 Cosafa Women’s Cup.

Fazili revealed that the technical panel has focused on reviewing the mistakes from the loss to South Africa, stressing that performance-wise, the team showed promise but lacked efficiency in front of goal.

“There will be no change in the formula we used against South Africa,” said Fazili.

“The major challenge was converting our chances. Our style of play was good, but we need to score first so that we can reach the next stage of the tournament. The players have given me confidence that we can do better in Saturday’s game against Lesotho.”

The coach further described the return of Vanessa Chikupila as a timely boost to the squad, expressing belief that her presence will strengthen the attacking front and improve the team’s goal-scoring chances.

The Scorchers, who were crowned champions of the COSAFA Women’s Championship in 2023, are determined to bounce back and keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive.
