Call them Luanar Mitundu FC.
Mitundu Baptist will compete in the FDH Bank Premiership under a new identity following a strategic partnership with LUANAR FC.
LUANAR FC, owned by the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, has been competing in the third tier of Malawian football.
Mitundu Baptist, who secured promotion to the Premiership through the inaugural NBS Bank National Division League, will now operate as Luanar Mitundu FC following the merger.
The development was announced today, with both parties confirming that the club will adopt the new name with immediate effect.
According to a joint statement signed by LUANAR FC’s General Secretary, a comprehensive business plan has been developed to guide the club’s operations, outlining key revenue streams and cost structures.
Financial responsibilities will be shared between the two partners, while governance will be overseen by a joint executive committee to ensure balanced decision-making.
On the technical side, LUANAR FC will transition into a reserve team for Luanar Mitundu FC. The move aligns with Football Association of Malawi (FAM) club licensing requirements, which mandate that top-flight teams maintain a reserve side and a women’s team.
As part of this requirement and its broader growth strategy, Luanar Mitundu FC will also establish a women’s team.
The club has further outlined commercial plans to enhance sustainability, including the rollout of branded merchandise such as replica jerseys, scarves, caps and other items. Supporters have been encouraged to purchase merchandise to support the club’s development.
Luanar Mitundu FC will use Dedza Stadium as its home ground.
