Seven coaches have been fired from their jobs, while one is serving a suspension as the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership first round comes to an end.

By September 8, five coaches had already been relieved of their duties, while one coach was serving a suspension. The number of fired coaches later increased to seven after Ekhaya FC and Silver Strikers also parted ways with their head coaches. Read Zathapo! Silver Strikers fired Peter Mgangira after reviewing the team’s performance in the first round. His departure came days after the team suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in their last game of the first round.

Mgangira had a good league record before his dismissal, winning eight of 15 matches, drawing five and losing two. He also guided the team in the Airtel Top 8, where they lost to Karonga United.

The seven coaches who have been fired are Tione Mhone of Kamuzu Barracks, Gilbert Chirwa of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Audlow Makonyola of Karonga United, Eliya Kananji of Creck Sporting Club, Alex Ngwira of Goshen City Dedza Dynamos, Enos Chatama of Ekhaya FC and Peter Mgangira of Silver Strikers.

Meanwhile, Bob Mpinganjira of Mighty Wanderers is the only coach currently serving a suspension.

The changes mean that seven of the 16 teams in the FDH Bank Premiership have fired their head coaches during the first round.

The changes reflect the pressure on coaches to produce results, with clubs making early decisions when performances do not meet expectations.
